All Kindergarten students need to be able to go to the toilet by themselves. This includes being able to manage their underclothes and pushing a tap on to wash their hands.
There are no hand driers in the Kindergarten toilets.
Please regularly practice tying shoelaces with your child. We recommend purchasing shoes with velcro fasteners until your child can tie their own shoe laces.
Within the first few weeks of Kindergarten there will be many opportunities for students to practice writing their name. If your child is able to see and recognise their name when they come to school it will help them:
Recognise their school bag
Ensure they are wearing the correct hat
Play name games
There are a number of students at school who have a range of allergies.
It would be greatly appreciated if you do not send nut products to school. Students are not allowed to share food.
Fine motor strength helps students to actively participate in writing and scissor tasks as well as any hands on activities. Fine motor strength can be developed through practicing the following skills:
playing with Lego
Using clothes pegs to pick up small items
Using a spray bottle to help water the garden
Play dough construction
Threading beads onto string
Jigsaw puzzles
We have provided 2 files for download. Your child can use these printable pages to practice cutting skills and pencil control.
Kindergarten is a wonderful environment to help support and develop your child’s awareness of others. In preparation for Kindergarten, and throughout your child’s first years at school, please provide regular opportunities for your child to socialise with other children and practice social skills such as sharing, safe play and taking turns.
Playing games at home can help develop turn taking and focus on an activity.
