Students in the Support Unit have been working towards building independence skills this semester. The aim is to develop students' confidence and promote a resilient, solution-focused mindset.
Support Unit students work in the school coffee shop, called Coffee Monkey, each Friday. They have the opportunity to learn essential skills including active listening, self-advocacy and internal drive in a safe, supportive environment that encourages individual growth.
Teachers and SLSOs work alongside the students to build capacity and lessen the amount of support given over time to encourage students to work independently. This model is reflected in the classroom context to improve students' critical thinking skills.
In Week 10, students will be attending the annual ten pin bowling trials at Southgate Bowling. The top four students will be invited to represent Kogarah High School at the Inclusive Schools Ten Pin Bowling Competition held in August.
Good luck to all the competitors!
