It was only their second day at Kogarah High School, but Year Advisors Ms Blomkamp and Ms Stout whisked Year 7 off to the Tops at Stanwell Tops.
Here, students took part in a two-day excursion, as a part of their Year 7 Orientation program. The program was aimed at providing Year 7 a fun, welcoming experience and allowing them to meet their peers and their teachers in a comfortable, engaging way!
On the first day, the weather was extremely hot, but students were not deterred by the heat. Students started the day off with a range of ice-breaker activities, where they were encouraged to socialise with the rest of their cohort.
After lunch, they then participated in a range of exhilarating activities like The Giant Swing, Go Carting, and Tree Tops. Even the teachers got involved- they were strapped into harnesses and went flying on The Giant Swing!
Students returned to the camp on Monday. The weather conditions were a complete opposite. It was cold, rainy and we all listened and watched as the thunder and lightning struck around us. Still, Year 7 showed resilience and pushed through and had a great time completing other activities, both indoors and outdoors (when the weather cleared).
It was incredible to see them step out of their comfort zones and try new things, all while building new friendships. What a great way to start the year off!
Also, thank you to all the teachers and office staff who helped make this camp possible.
