Mr Dave Haggart
Principal (relieving)
We are excited to welcome you to the first edition of our school newsletter for 2025! It has been a pleasure to greet our new Year 7 students as they begin their high school journey. We look forward to working closely with families to ensure that this great start continues throughout the year.
In addition, we have welcomed several new teachers to Kogarah High School, as some of our valued staff members have moved on to new schools and opportunities. We are grateful for their contributions and wish them success in their future endeavors.
Outstanding HSC Results
We are incredibly proud of our Year 12 students, who achieved fantastic results in their HSC exams. Many students attained Band 5 and 6 scores in one or more subjects, and a significant number have secured university placements. Additionally, 38% of our 2024 graduates have enrolled in TAFE, furthering their skills and career prospects. Congratulations to all our students for their hard work and dedication!
Strategic Excellence Plan 2025-2027
We are currently developing our Strategic Excellence Plan for 2025-2027, which will guide our school’s direction and continuous improvement. Our three key focus areas are:
Student Growth & Achievement – Enhancing academic progress and success for all students.
Student Wellbeing & Engagement – Fostering a supportive and inclusive school environment.
Refined Teacher Practice & Collaboration – Strengthening teaching strategies through professional learning and teamwork.
In Term 2, we will host a community discussion to unpack our Improvement Plan and outline the key initiatives planned for the year. All parents are warmly invited to attend. A light supper will be provided by our talented senior Hospitality students.
Our Commitment to Student Learning
At Kogarah High School, we are dedicated to creating a welcoming, purposeful, and distraction-free learning environment. Our teachers are committed to igniting curiosity, promoting open-mindedness, and ensuring that all students can reach their full potential.
We understand that learning needs vary, so our lessons are designed to be accessible and engaging for all students. We incorporate visual materials, hands-on activities, and structured lesson breakdowns to maintain student engagement. To support learning, instructions are provided in multiple formats, including written handouts, digital resources on Google Classroom, and visual projections in class.
We are excited for the year ahead and look forward to working together to support our students' success. Thank you for being part of the Kogarah High School community!
Ms Nicole Best
Deputy Principal
Welcome to 2025 School Year and Happy New Year to all our families.
It is great to meet the new students starting at KHS and our returning students.
We are looking forward to a great term with a focus on Explicit Teaching and continuing with our Literacy Strategies. We have had great success with an increase in our students (Year 8-9) ability to interpret and understand classwork better due to our focus on Vocabulary in 2024. We are continuing this in 2025 and further implementing this in the senior years.
We are encouraging all students to read more at home. We have provided all Year 7 with a novel, and they are reading in class every day during Session 3. Year 7 and 8 are also involved in reading renaissance and each week have a reading lesson in the library. All students should be reading at home.
Year 12’s are progressing well in their HSC courses and will complete their Year 12 Mid-Course examination towards the end of Term 1. This is a great opportunity for students to experience HSC/examination questions under timed conditions. All Senior students should be doing 3-4hrs after school every day, completing homework, revision and study. The HSC is a marathon not a sprint. It takes weekly preparation and regular revision, not just the week before an examination or Assessment Task.
All year groups have Year Advisers, who are there to support students and families, please call the school if you have any questions.
