In Week 9, students from Year 12 English Advanced attended a live performance of Shakespeare's Richard III at Belvoir Theatre. Supplementing their study of Module A: Textual Conversations, the performance gave students a new perspective on one of Shakespeare's most villainous, yet most controversial characters.
"My conscience hath a thousand several tongues,
And every tongue brings in a several tale,
And every tale condemns me for a villain."
They were also lucky enough to participate in a Q&A with the director, Damian Ryan, who drew links between his version of the play, the docufilm Looking for Richard, and global issues that impact the world today.Â
