Italian migrants
Ci sono tanti australiani famosi di origine italiana nei vari campi come la moda, lo sport, la politica, la musica ecc. I loro genitori sono venuti in Australia con l’unica idea di avere una miglior possibilità di sopravvivere. Ma dopo un paio d’anni, c’era anche la nostalgia per il paese di nascita e la mancanza delle abitudini come la lingua, il sistema scolastico, la cultura italiana e soprattutto la mancanza della famiglia.
Quando sono arrivati, c’era la tendenza di stare vicino ad altri italiani. Così sono iniziate le prime comunità italiane in Australia. Con il passar del tempo, dei centri di cultura italiana, come Lygon Street a Melbourne o Norton Street a Sydney sono cresciuti nelle città ed anche tanti paesini in campagna, come Griffith e Lismore Particolarmente in campagna, non esistevano gli alimentari che desideravano: caffé, vino, legumi come melanzane, formaggi e salumi, pasta e tanti dolci tradizionali. Nell’Australia d’oggi, non sono più cose rare come una volta. Gli italiani stessi hanno sviluppato fattorie dove hanno lavorato insieme per creare una nuova Italia.
Ma quando questi italo-australiani sono tornati dopo tanti anni in Italia, hanno scoperto che l’Italia dei loro ricordi non esisteva più e, al suo posto, c’era un’Italia sconosciuta e diversa.
