Stick insects use camouflage to hide from predators. In the picture to the left, if you look close enough, you will see some stick insects. Don't get them confused with a real stick!
Males have larger, stronger wings and can fly really well whereas females are bigger than males but have smaller wings. We once had an incident when our insects first started flying as one of them decided to fly around our classroom and under one of the tables, a scary but valuable learning step for us.
Parthenogenesis is the form of asexual reproduction. Usually for most stick insects mating is not necessary as the females lay eggs without the help of male. Breeding stick insect is easy because if it's kept in the correct way they will mate and lay eggs eventually when they have entered adulthood.
