Early Birds Arrival Information

When you arrive to Gordon West Public School, please make your way to the Kindergarten COLA. There will be signs to point you in the right direction. Should you not be able to find it, you can ask our friendly office staff.

As you enter the school grounds there will be sign-in stations as we strive to meet the Department of Education’s sign-in requirements for visitors.

Under the Kindergarten COLA you will be met by the Kindergarten teachers who will provide you with a pack of information and put a name badge on your child. Your child will enter the Kindergarten classrooms with the teacher. Parents are asked to say goodbye at the door and are invited to the school hall to meet other parents for tea, coffee and refreshments.

Prior to Early Birds

Please complete the following tasks:

Monitor your email for your invitation to attend Early Birds at Gordon West. This will be sent to families in October/November 2023
Talk about Gordon West with your child by visiting the student portal of our website

Morning of Early Birds

What to do:

Prepare your child by talking positively about the experience
Explain that you will return to collect them at the same place you drop them off
Please sign-in at the allocated sign-in station as you enter the school grounds

Your child will need:

Comfortable clothing suitable for play based activities (you may choose to wear Gordon West uniform, but this is not required)
A small snack for eating time
A small drink bottle of water

Please remember to clearly label all items your child brings with their name.

9:20 - 9:40 Drop Off

Please come directly to the Kindergarten COLA where our friendly Gordon West Staff will meet you and your child.

When arriving students will be given a name tag and invited into the classroom to join in some fun games, including puzzles, construction and colouring. It is often easiest if parents use positive language during this time and say a quick goodbye.

In Week 1 of Early Birds we would like to invite parents and carers to our school hall for some light refreshments.

9:30 - 10:00 Social Play

When arriving at Gordon West students will be invited inside to join in some fun social games and activities including puzzles, colouring, construction and more. This makes saying goodbye nice and easy as children can select an activity that they feel most comfortable joining.

Gordon West teachers use this time to get to know your child and observe their social skills with their peers.

10:00 - 10:15 Story Time

After packing up and washing our hands our incoming Kindergarten students will join in a story session with a Kindergarten teacher.

10:15 - 10:45 Craft

During this time we will complete a simple craft activity that students will get to bring home to share with your family from their time at Gordon West. This can be a great way to initiate conversation about big school and the experiences they had at Early Birds.

10:45 - 11:00 Eating Time

After completing our craft and washing our hands students will sit under the Kindergarten COLA to eat a small snack from home. Please ensure your child is prepared with a small snack and a drink bottle for this time.

11:00 Home Time

Parent and carers are invited to collect students from under the Kindergarten COLA at 11:00am.

Please ensure you are prompt for pick up as it can be very distressing for students if family are late to collection and it is important students are collected prior to our whole school recess at 11:15am.
