How to make a collage

using natural resources

Share the video above about Jeannie Baker. The images in this story are made by Jeannie using a technique called collage. In this video, Jeannie explains how she collected the natural resources and made the collages.

Let's make a collage

Go outside and find natural resources around your school or home you can use to make a collage. You might want to include:

  • grass

  • leaves

  • sticks

  • sand

  • shells

  • bark

  • vines

  • flowers

Use a glue stick to stick you collage together in a nature journal or on paper.

Sharing Aboriginal Knowledge

In the video, Shannon Foster, Georges River based D'harawal Saltwater Knowledge Keeper, shares her local knowledge about Lomandra grass and weaving. This is just one of the ways Aboriginal people use natural resources.

Resources that will be useful to help prepare for the next lesson include:

samples of sand, sandstone and/or sandpaper
