Activity 2
As show in the video adjacent, you can determine the soil texture using the ribboning method. Use the information from the sheet above with a handful of soil and some water.
Watch the video on how to conduct this experiment. This is an easy one to do if you have access to soil.
What you will need:
garden soil
trowel or small spade
plastic jar
water
to leave the experiment overnight to settle.
How much sand is in your soil sample?
Activity 4
Take a soil sample. Use a piece of sticky tape and press the middle of it down onto bare soil. Now stick it to your page. This can be done in different sites to compare the surface soil.
Take a pinch of soil and rub it on your page. This will record the colour of the soil. This can be done in a few locations to see if there is any difference in the soil colour. Compare the colour to the chart above.
