In about week four or five the teacher will hold a 'meet the teacher' evening. If we are in the current COVID19 restrictions this may be held via Zoom. During this time the teachers will explain how the home reading program works and how you can support your child's learning at home. One of the most important things you can do is to provide your child with varied experiences that are often free and easy to do - going to the beach and building a sandcastle, visiting the local library and borrowing books filled with rich language, visiting a farm, picking fruit etc. The more experiences your child has, the better equipped they will be to make connections to what they read, using their personal experiences to help them understand texts and develop their language skills.
Play is also a crucial part of early childhood and it is really important that children are allowed to play (not on a screen). We encourage you to foster a love of play as this will provide a strong foundation for your child's education.
