SPORTS HOUSES

Involvement in sports is a large part of the culture at Enfield Public School. Students are placed in an allocated sports group when they commence Kindergarten and follow through the years in the same sports group until they leave school in Year 6. Enfield was one of the first schools in the area to use the Dharug language to name their sporting houses. Our current house names are:

Bamal - meaning earth (red)

Burra - meaning sky (blue)

Diramu - meaning trees (green)

Guwing - meaning sun (yellow)

Each sports house is represented by a colour (as above). The colours of each housing team were specifically selected to represent the significance and meaning of the house name. The sports houses are from the Dharug language because that is the language of the Wangal people on whose land Enfield Public School stands.

The current house names have significantly changed since the opening of Enfield Public School. In the past, students were also allocated to four individual house groups, however, the names of these houses differed. The names of all four houses were based on Australian flora and fauna.

Waratah (red)

Currawong (blue)

Koala (green)

Boronia (yellow)

Fun Fact: The two ladies who currently work in our school office were ex-students of Enfield Public School! Elizabeth was in 'Koala' and Joanne was in 'Waratah'.
