This year (2023), the competition was held at Broughton Anglican College on Saturday 26 August. Students competed in the STEM category and were tasked with creating a 'bird' that would complete two manoeuvres when launched from a perch. The competition was marked against a set of criteria. Furthermore, students performed in a spontaneous challenge where the group was provided with four minutes of planning time and one minute of performance time.
The team received an honourable mention and was awarded with a merit award prize! An outstanding effort by the Enfield Public ToM students!
The 2023 NAIDOC Week art competition was based upon the theme 'For Our Elders', to show respect to older generations within our communities. Agnes received first prize for her outstanding and creative artwork. Her art was displayed at The Rocks Discovery Museum. Agnes' artwork demonstrated the importance of taking care of our elders within the community and highlighting their knowledge and culture. This competition was not only about art but also about remembering and keeping alive the wisdom and traditions of the generations and persons who came before us.
The 2023 Young Archibald competition is an opportunity for young artists to show their skills. Students represented Enfield Public School proudly, with a notable mention of two students who received prizes for their entries.
Mi Woo painted a picture of our school principal, Mr. James Wratten. She represented a moment in time during our yearly Christmas Gala Night, in which Mr. Wratten engaged with students, families and the wider school community. Mr Wratten is pictured wearing his favourite Christmas shirt, festive had and radiating happily, as he so often is!
Daniel painted a picture of his grandmother, outlining the fine details of her uniqueness. He wished to create a piece that would make him feel closer to his grandmother and as a respectful and loving way of remembering her, as he misses her due to his grandmother living in Korea.
Students of Enfield Public are provided with the opportunity to compete at local area Athletics, Cross Country and Swimming Carnivals! The regional area for Enfield is known as the 'Sydney-East Region and encompasses 12 schools'.
We're proud to have had many students representing Enfield Public School at this level of competition across all three carnivals!
Most recently we celebrated the achievements of Hannah (Cross Country), as well as David and Gina (Swimming) for their outstanding efforts during their respective competitive days.
As part of the NSW Arts Unit, students displaying strengths in literacy (particularly spelling) are provided the opportunity to compete in the yearly Premier's Spelling Bee Competition. This competition is a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage in spelling. Although the competition provides an opportunity for our spelling superstars to compete against other students, it encompasses an inclusive approach, providing all students (regardless of ability) to improve their vocabulary and spelling while promoting literacy skills in combination with the curriculum.
This year, Enfield was proud to cheer on two students in the regional round of the competition. Both Klaus and Mujtaba gave it their best go when trying to spell challenging, new words! We're so proud of the efforts and encouragement of each other that these boys showed and the respect displayed to all other competitors in the region!
The Woolworths Earn and Learn program is an exciting initiative that helps schools collect points for educational equipment through shopping at Woolworths. Enfield Public School participated and, in 2014, got a fantastic surprise—a visit from Jessica Mauboy! The program supports schools in gathering resources while fostering a sense of community. The unexpected appearance of Jessica Mauboy added a special touch to the experience, making it a memorable event for the students.
Enfield Public School has been a hub of compassion and action, hosting various fundraising endeavours. The Student Representative Council (SRC) rallied for Pyjama Day, the Parent and Citizen (P&C) group organised vibrant colour fun runs to acquire school resources and Garam (student) contributed to aid children affected by earthquakes in Turkey and Syria. These initiatives showcase the school's dedication to helping others and enhancing its community, creating a positive impact both locally and globally.
In 2022, one of our school's SLSOs, Kirsti McNamara, competed on a TV show called Lego Masters on Channel 9. She worked with her partner Daniel and they did really well, finishing in 5th place. To celebrate their hard work, the Student Representative Council (SRC) organised a Lego competition for all the students. They had to make their own cool Lego creations based on different themes. Ms Kirsti picked the stage winners for the competition. This event was a big celebration and also encouraged everyone to reach into their inner creativity!
Enfield Public is proud to encourage and support students who engage in a range of out-of-school activities! Jacob is a large part of the wider Enfield community, playing as part of the local soccer club, Enfield Rovers. He was selected to represent the local area as part of this year's Football Canterbury Representative League. With pace and trickery in his locker, Jacob was a standout at the trials and secured his sport as a Left Winger.
An outstanding performance by one of our Enfield students! We wish Jacob all the best with his future soccer endeavours and can't wait to hear about where this may take him!
Enfield Public School is part of the Strathfield Network. One of the network's initiatives is to better Aboriginal education within schools and to develop a partnership with schools that excel in delivering Aboriginal education. Five schools in the network (Enfield, Mortlake, Strathfield North, Strathfield South and Homebush West) visited Menindee Central School for a week in Term 2 in 2022. Staff were lucky enough to witness a moving performance named 'Weeping Cloud' which was a school and community-produced performance about a local Aboriginal woman's experiences of the Stolen Generation and her journey home to Menindee. They were also able to develop connections with the staff and students and gain insights into how Menindee Central School bridged the gap between school and community, with Aboriginal elders at the forefront of all decision-making.
The partnership between the network and Menindee continues to this day with more schools in the network visiting and working in Menindee. Staff and students in Menindee were also able to visit Sydney as well!
In 2022 students from Enfield Public School made it to the semi-finals for debating after winning all except one debate. The team is made up of students from Years 4-6. Debate topics varied in difficulty with both affirmative and negative points of view necessary to create a persuasive argument. The team's favourite debate topic was: It should be mandatory for children to learn how to swim.
Although the team did not take out the grand final win, we're beyond proud of the efforts, debating skills, sportsmanship and rebuts that the team used throughout the debating season. As well as developing speaking skills, students developed the essential skills of teamwork, compromising, listening and collaborating with each other.
Each year the school’s choir goes to the Sydney Opera House to perform with many other schools. They perform a variety of songs with a variety of voice tones. Enfield Public School’s Dance Troop has also performed a series of dances at the Opera House in previous years. Many people haven’t been inside the Opera House and to go inside and perform is an honour for the students that get to go. Additionally, this is an opportunity for the students to learn from others, collaboratively perform in a moving and powerful performance and develop their skills in the extracurricular areas of music and dance.
Orchestra and music is an increasingly developing area of Enfield Public School. As part of offering opportunities and excellence in the area of music, as an extra-curricular program, students from Enfield Public School are supported to participate in this new and growing program.
