Transition to School
The Importance of Transition
The importance of a positive transition to school experience has been consistently emphasised in research around the world. A large body of evidence suggests a successful transition helps improve children’s educational and social outcomes.
Transition to school is an active process of continuity and change as children move into the first year of school. The process of transition occurs over time, beginning well before children start school and extending to the point where children and families feel a sense of belonging at school.
Effective transition programs establish positive relationships between the children, parents and school. Building specific connections between schools and other prior-to-school services, as part of a transition program, helps build upon communication and trust between the school and their community.
Our Vision
To provide and support a positive transition to school experience which:
improves children's educational and social outcomes
presents opportunities for children to familiarise themselves within the school environment
helps children to feel secure, confident and connected in their new environment
fosters socialisation with peers
builds strong community partnerships prior to starting school
Strong Start
Eleebana Public School offer an optional transition to school program called Strong Start. Through Strong Start, we aim to provide and support a positive transition to school experience that leads to better learning and wellbeing outcomes in a child's school life and beyond.
Strong Start consists of a series of 5 weekly sessions. Parents and carers will drop their children off, providing opportunities for children transitioning to Kindergarten the following year to get to know each other and to become familiar with the school setting. These sessions will be for an hour each week, running for 5 consecutive weeks. For dates and times, click on the registration form below.
