Eddie Mabo did not go to primary school but he was a teacher in an Aboriginal school. It was a program to help Aboriginal and Torres Strait kids to be educated. Before this, he went to university. The university was called the James Cook University in Douglas, Yumba Campus, Bebegu, Townsville, Australia. In that university he worked as a research assistant and learned about the land that his family had lived on.
