Stage 1 has created a program to help students enjoy a successful period of remote learning and that endeavours to provide continuity of learning whilst also maintaining strong ties between the student, their teachers and peers. The daily timetables and relevant supporting resources can be found on this website.
Over the week students will complete a range of tasks in English, Maths and other Key Learning Areas. Each day there will be reading, writing and maths activities that students MUST complete. During the afternoon, students will have the opportunity to complete work from other Key Learning Areas such as history, science, music, art or physical education. These will be the CAN Do tasks.
It would be helpful for each student to have the following equipment:
Pencil case with pencils, scissors, ruler, glue (to use whilst at home and on their at school days)
Paper or workbook
A book to read
This term, the students will need to have Mathletics, Reading Eggs, Seesaw and Wushka installed on their iPad or accessible on their computer. Students will also need to have their logins for Seesaw, Mathletics, Reading Eggs, DET-School and Wushka.
It is important that students post their work for their teacher to view in each session throughout the day as teachers are monitoring their learning progress. Teachers will give written or verbal feedback on one piece of work each day. Work needs to be completed well and not rushed.
We aim to log onto Seesaw 2-3 times throughout the day between the hours of 8.50am and 2.50pm to see how our students are progressing. We will also be 'virtually' marking the class roll each day when we see student work get uploaded. If students don't upload work after 2 days, we may need to make a call to families to check in and see how they are going. This is more from a wellbeing stand point just to ensure everything is okay.
Again, there is no expectation that children are working from 8.50am-2.50pm. Remote learning is very different to being in a classroom with approximately 23 other students. Tasks can be completed a lot quicker than during a school day. When tasks are complete there are some additional activities below if your child is eager to do more work. Otherwise we highly encourage that children have ample play and rest time too, as their emotional wellbeing is the highest priority in times like these.
We are incredibly understanding of the extra load remote learning and working from home is placing on parents at this tricky time. Please speak to your child's teacher if you need assistance helping your child complete the MUST Do tasks.
Stage 1 Daily Routine (8:50am - 2:50pm)
8:50am- Students to check Seesaw for announcements or messages from the teacher.
Read through Daily Timetable.
Complete daily MUST DO tasks. The MUST DO task for Stage 1 are the English and Mathematics activities. These are all the activities in the morning and middle session. Once students have finished these MUST DO tasks, they may begin the CAN DO tasks.
Zoom meeting at 10:00am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The teacher will send out the Zoom link in Seesaw just before the meeting.
Students must upload completed MUST DO work to Seesaw by clicking add response to the designated activity so that teachers can check work, provide feedback and monitor learning.
Students should enjoy regular breaks ideally away from screens so that they can also have some play time.
2:50pm – Students should check Seesaw for final end of day announcements or messages from the teacher.
Zoom Meetings
Students can meet with their class teacher for a “Connect and Reflect Session” via Zoom. Stage 1 students will be meeting every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 10:00am. A link and password to this meeting will be shared via Seesaw prior to the meeting. Students will need their school email address and password to login. It is encouraged that students attend these morning meetings to connect with their teacher and classmates. Before students can take part in Zoom meetings, parents and students need to read the Code of Conduct and send the teacher recognition that they agree before they will be admitted into the Zoom classroom. This agreement will be sent via Seesaw.
Communication
We ask that students ask their teachers for help earlier, rather than later. Teachers are eager to ensure that students are confident in navigating their way through online learning.
If you wish to speak with your child’s teacher please message your child's teacher via Seesaw.
Work for the new week: Work for the week ahead will be shared on the DPS Remote Learning Site in the section below each Friday.
Posting work to Seesaw: Seesaw activities will only be activated from 8.50am for that day. This is so to not overwhelm students with a list of weekly tasks and to direct their attention to the tasks that are relevant that need to completed first. It will also mean that teachers can prioritise checking and providing feedback on the work of the day.
Online Safety
Keeping students safe in the online learning environment is a key priority for us. We know that most student devices and home networks do not have the same high level of monitoring and filtering that we have at School. Please check the internet security settings in place on your network to ensure your child has a safe and positive online learning experience. Please see the eSafety Commisioner’s website for more information and tips on cyber safety https://www.esafety.gov.au/
The teachers look forward to seeing all of the fabulous student work that they complete over the coming week.
Thank you,
Mr J Jones, Mrs C Green, Mrs L Zalaf, Miss J Riccobono & Miss R Kim

Supporting the wellbeing of children is an important part of what students, families and schools do every day. In times of uncertainty and stress, it is especially important to ensure children's wellbeing is looked after. Supporting wellbeing will help with positive interactions with others and for students to learn more effectively.
The document provided has a range of activities students can complete from home to support their wellbeing during this difficult time.
