Dodge is an American automobile manufacturer which primarily focuses on performance vehicles and utility vehicles. It is a division of the Stellanis multinational automotive manufacturing group, which has recently appeared in the beginning of 2021 after a merger of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA. Dodge is based out of Auburn Hills, Detroit, Michigan, and has been providing performance vehicles for years.
Dodge started out as a machine shop by two brothers, Horace Elgin Dodge and John Francis Dodge in the early 1900s. It was a supplier of automotive parts for Detroit based automakers, and began tinkering with it's own vehicles under a new brand called Dodge Brothers in 1914. After some early succcess, the brand was beginning to make it's name, but in 1920, both of the brothers died due to the Spanish flu and the company was sold by their families to another company, and then eventually handed off to Chrysler in 1928. The companies vehicles consisted of trucks and passenger vehicles all the way through the 1970s, but when the 1973 oil crisis occured, it severly impacted the company which forced them to begin building compact vehicles for the distant future. Dodge had some financial issues in the early 2000s, with several ownership changes and a major bankruptcy bailout in 2009 by the United States Government. This eventually led to yet another bankruptcy, and then the company was acquired by Fiat. Since then, Dodge has expanded it's arsenal and was split into multiple brands such as RAM Trucks which still exist today! In early 2021, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and Groupe PSA merged into one mega company, known as Stellantis, with over 400 thousand employees, and a presence in over 130 countries, with manufacturing facilities in 30 countries. It now is apart of a much bigger picture, and owns multiple brands, such as Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Chrysler, Citroën, Dodge, DS Automobiles, Fiat, Fiat Professional, Jeep, Lancia, Maserati, Mopar, Opel, Peugeot, Ram Trucks and Vauxhall.
