Our first principal was fired for fraud by altering attendence documents during the typhoid epidemic to make it seem children were still attending. In 1884 there was a substancial decline in enrolments and attendence. The Inspector Willis was critical of Principal Johnsons work and he was dismissed in April 1885
Coopernook Public School opened in 1875
Coopernook Public School took 2 years to open after the first application by parents.
All desks and firniture was donated and supplied by parents.
It cost six pence a week per child or 3 pence for 4 or more children
Our P&C started in 1911.
It took 4 years of complaints for the school to repair shaky floors, sunken walls, uneven ceilings and a leaky roof. It also had damage from white ants and borers.
The chosen builder was called Cowan he was from Taree. While fixing the school he had a major accident, causing his death.
Mrs Gilchrist kids were at Scouts with Brett our computer coordinator.
