In this session, you’ll hear from scientists working in plant biosecurity with the Australian government Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF). These scientists apply their knowledge and experience in entomology, plant pathology and botany to protect Australia’s unique agricultural and environmental status, free from many high risk pests and diseases present in other parts of the world. Plants and plant products are imported into Australia everyday, including fruit and vegetables, grains and seeds, cut flowers and timber.
Experimental Design linked to Peri-Urban Food Production
Target Audience: Stages 4, 5 and 6
Curriculum Links: Agriculture, Geography, Primary Industries, Careers
Presenter: Dr Richard Thomas
Dr Richard Thomas will explore with students principles of experimental design linked to Agriculture and the sciences, with a focus on a simple, yet effective experiment that links to food nutrition and food security in peri-urban settings. Students will also develop an understanding of how experimental design is applied to learning in a tertiary setting.
Target Audience: Stages 2 and 3
Curriculum Links: Science and Technology, HSIE, Careers
Presenter: Centre of Excellence in Agricultural Education Team
Explore the role pollinators play in our everyday lives. Students will take a deeper dive into the importance of pollinators and their role in agriculture and food production.
This workshop is a 50 minute introduction to Pollinator's and the Centre's No Bees No Future Program. This program is available as a full day incursion or semester based transdisciplinary program
