A microcontroller is essentially a miniature computer. It can receive input, perform processing and produce output. It works the same way as a regular computer but performs a limited set of functions. Microcontrollers are often embedded within consumer products that are sometimes called Control Technologies.
Microcontrollers come in a whole range of shapes and sizes. The microcontroller inside a FitBit Force is very different in size and shape to the microcontroller found in the Motiv fitness ring.
