Intranet

An intranet is a private network that uses a similar interface to the Web. It supports email, newsgroups, file transfer, web publishing and is accessible to users by a browser.

The main purpose of an intranet is to share information and computing resources among the members of an organisation. The information may be staff news, product information, telephone directories, policies, employee manuals and calendars.

Extranet is an intranet that is accessible to customers, suppliers or others outside the organisation. It provides information such as product descriptions, frequently asked questions, warranties and how to contact customer service.
