To provide safety of users against viruses, hackers and spam, a number of ways of controlling access to information on the web is implemented.

• A cookie- a file that is stored on the hard disk after the user visits a website, stores information and behavior of websites visited

• Proxy server - a barrier to the Internet to ensure users are securely and productively accessing network resources.

• Firewalls - used on the Internet or any network to check all incoming data for the purpose of verification and authentication.

• Anti-virus software - used to scan a file or disk for a range of known viruses.

• Spam blocking software - blocks spam and unwanted commercial advertisements

• Anti-spyware software - protection against spyware by removing spyware and prevents it from being installed. (spyware software that installs in secret and transmits personal data from that computer.
