LANGUAGES IN YEAR 7 @ DAPTO HIGH SCHOOL
In Year 7, students participate in the mandatory Stage 4 Languages program, where they are introduced to Italian or Spanish. The course is designed to develop confidence, curiosity and an appreciation of different cultures while building a foundation in Language learning. This aligns with the NSW Moderrn Languages Curriculum.
In both languages, ITALIAN and SPANISH, students begin learning through fun and interactive activities, exploring:
Greetings and Introductions,
Talking about themselves, Family and Friends,
Numbers, Colours, Days and Months,
School Life,
Food and Drinks,
Italian/Spanish Traditions and Celebrations,
Famous Landmarks and the Regions of Italy,
Music, Art and Cultural Customs.
Students will develop their basic grammar and sentence building in LISTENING, SPEAKING, READING and WRITING through engaging activities such as games, songs, role-plays, digital activities, creative projects and collaborative tasks.
The students in Year 7 while learning ITALIAN or SPANISH begin many of their Language lessons with DUOLINGO, where they engage in fun, interactive activities that reinforce vocabulary and language structures that are revisited in lessons. The app adapts to each students level, allowing all students to work at their own pace. Student progress is monitored and acheivements are celebrated.
At Dapto High School, the students participate in the DUOLINGO GEMSTARS competition where the top three winners of each lesson who earn the most gems are recognised and rewarded.
