What is VISUAL DESIGN??

Visual Design is a creative course where students design and create works that can be used, read, worn and more!
Throughout the course, students develop innovative design solutions that balance function with aesthetics while building practical skills across a range of creative disciplines.
Students have opportunities to work both collaboratively and independently, contributing their own ideas to respond to authentic design briefs.
Projects encourage creative thinking, problem-solving and the development of technical skills in a supportive studio environment.
Students may create a wide variety of design outcomes, such as newsletters, logos, magazines, illustrations, animations, digital drawings, GIFs, websites, tattoo designs, murals, felted sculptures, plant pots, T-shirt graphics, skateboard designs, illustrated children's books, colourful clay jewellery, and more!
Each project begins with a design brief outlining requirements. Students investigate and experiment with a range of media, including drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics and digital technologies, while documenting and refining their ideas in a Visual Design Process Diary.
Students also investigate the history of design and explore the work of past and contemporary designers, developing the skills to analyse, interpret and critically evaluate design works from a range of cultures, contexts and time periods.

INDIVIDUAL DESIGN PROJECTS - Skateboard Decks, Board Games, Card Games ETC.
PRODUCT DESIGN
Wearable Art - shoes, t-shirts, scarves, vessels, tote bag designs, macrame, packaging, ETC.
JEWELLERY DESIGN - earrings, pendants, broaches, accessories, headpieces, ETC.
COLLABORATIVE DESIGN PROJECTS... such as murals and displays.

Visual Design is a marvellous subject to join to immerse yourself in future focused learning.
Critically thinking is the most significant ingredient in the practical and theoretical aspect of this course: thinking independently and with meaning to foster high levels of engagement and ownership of the task.
Always applying your creativity to tasks whether with practical materials or with the written tasks, this element will allow you to rise and be noticed. Working in collaboration with peers will enhance learning as the best practice is attained by listening, engaging and taking on critical feedback by sharing practices with your peers.
The essence of any learning is to then have a product that communicates to the audience. Visual Design allows you to have this voice, to share your independent thinking and to activate this with a marvellous range of materials.

Visual Design is about constructing objects that communicate an idea. Every object begins with a design brief that outlines what is to be made, how, why, its cost and who the audience is to be. Your designs may become part of the community, therefore your work has a purpose!
A VDPD will be a documentation of every task. This book is where students present ideas, critical judgements, pictures and theoretical research.
Research may be investigating a designer: Gucci, an object: iphone, or even exploring design throughout history : clothing.
This course requires excellent problem solving skills. Your planning is critical! Technology is vital !
Be a creative person, work collaboratively, ensure you think critically about all of the decisions you make and communicate your thoughts through words and images.
