FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below are some common questions asked by Kindergarten parents.
Can students use the canteen at the start of the year?
No. Students play in a separate area for recess and lunch for the first four weeks and are not able to leave this area to use the canteen. Siblings are not able to buy for their Kindy brother or sister during this time as it causes confusion for other Kindy students that do not have a sibling to do this for them.
Kindy will be able to use the canteen from approximately Week 6, however the school will inform parents via email when this is possible as it is important that teachers have taken students to the canteen and explained the process and school expectations before they use this facility.
Are we allowed to order lunches via Flexischools in the first 4 weeks?
Yes. Lunch orders can only be ordered online for all students K-6. Kindergarten students can have a lunch order from the start of their school year. Lunch orders are delivered by the canteen to Kindergarten classrooms in the first few weeks of school.
Do Kindergarten get homework?
Yes. Kindergarten homework begins later in Term 1 after students have settled in. This consists of a set of sight words to learn, a home reader and some online literacy and maths activities. Information about this is provided in homework folders when they are first sent home.
How does your school accomodate for students with English as a second language?
Our school has an excellent EAL/D (English as an Additional Language or Dialect) teacher who works closely with classroom teachers and students to develop students' confidence and understanding of the English language.
How many Kindergarten classes are there next year?
We continue to take enrolments for Kindergarten students into the start of the new school year. For this reason it is not easy to predict the exact number of classes that we will have until we begin the school year. Historically we average 4 Kindergarten classes, however this has fluctuated year to year.
