Best Start Kindergarten Assessment

Specific information about an appointment time for the Best Start Kindergarten Assessment for your child will be communicated towards the end of the year.

The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment identifies student’s literacy and numeracy skills on entry to Kindergarten. It has been conducted in all NSW public schools since 2010.

The assessment is conducted in line with existing school practices and builds upon teaching and learning programs that support students in the transition to school.

Each student attends a 45 minute appointment with a Kindergarten teacher to conduct the assessment. The assessment is conducted in an informal and relaxed manner with many students unaware that they are even being assessed during that time.

Appointment times will be scheduled between 9:00am and 3:00pm. Dates for these appointments will be:

- Tuesday 31 January 2023

- Wednesday 1 February 2023

- Thursday 2 February 2023

- Friday 3 February 2023

An appointment time for your child will be communicated to parents towards the end of the year.

If your child is unable to attend their scheduled appointment time please let the school know. Students that miss their appointment will be assessed during their first weeks of school.

The Best Start Kindergarten Assessment supports the NSW Government’s Literacy and Numeracy Strategy and is mapped to the National Literacy and Numeracy Learning Progressions.
