At BHPS, we adopt a school wide system of positive behaviour support. This system is a whole of school approach that is designed to create the most effective environment for learning and social engagement. We understand that learning social skills and socially appropriate behaviours is a process, which every student moves through at a different pace. At Barrack Heights, our support structures enable every student to grow and progress into successful members of our school community who endorse the values of SAFE, ENGAGED, and RESPECTFUL learners.
Our focus is on teaching and reinforcing appropriate social behaviours. BHPS places an emphasis on preventing challenging behaviour through effective instruction, role modelling, and feedback. We have developed a behaviour expectation matrix for students and educators that outlines the behaviour expectations at BHPS. These expectations are actively taught throughout the school day and are reinforced through ‘DOJO points’ that students can earn when they are engaging in behaviours that align with the school expectations. Our educators also receive consistent professional development on evidence-based strategies to promote positive behaviour, and effectively respond to challenging behaviour.
