Organic waste is plentiful in school playground rubbish bins. Once students begin to sort their waste you will need a good system to deal with the organic waste you collect. There are a few ways to manage your organic waste depending on the size of your school and the service offered in your area.
The most common options available to schools are worm farms, compost systems and housing chickens. Many areas in the BVSC have FOGO - Food and Garden Organics that schools can access. Below are some links to resources and products for schools to consider.

In 2022 the Environmental Protection Agency introduced new regulations that govern what can and can't be placed in the Bega Valley Shire's FOGO bins. This may impact school canteens in particular as compostable products are no longer able to go in FOGO, they now need to go in the red-lid landfill bin.
