At the Merimbula site students can learn about the process of turning FOGO into compost, the issues with contamination, community recycling streams such as e-waste, metals and other household items, and tour the community recycling centre.
At the Wolumla CWF site students can learn about landfill design, current management, landfill gas capture, leachate capture, and the effects of landfill on the environment.
The Cuppa by BVSC
Bega Valley Shire Council has created an engaging interactive digital story that highlights the intricate processes involved in managing the Central Waste Facility. By connecting the different facets of the landfill with a key message about waste reduction, they have developed an immersive educational resource.
This story has received positive feedback and is now being distributed to schools across NSW as an effective teaching aid. The project shows how bringing together various components can turn a straightforward subject into a meaningful and captivating learning experience.
