Family Interviews

Parents and Carers are invited to participate in a 15-minute meeting with the Principal and/or Kindergarten Assistant Principal. This session is an informal conversation to get to know your children on a deeper level prior to their start date with us.

Interview invitations will be sent out throughout Terms 3 and 4 2026.

COFFEE & PLAY

Tuesday 28 July 9:30am-10:30am

Tuesday 8 September 1pm-2pm

Balmain PS offer two Coffee & Play sessions which aim at introducing new Kindergarten students to their school environment. Our Coffee and Play sessions provide an opportunity for the parents of our incoming students to enjoy a casual morning/afternoon tea. Set in a relaxed atmosphere within our school library, parents mingle with fellow parents whose children will also be starting Kindergarten the following year. Meanwhile, the children engage in playtime with their soon-to-be classmates, offering them a chance to make new friends before officially starting school.

Orientation Sessions

Please Note: Students must be fully enrolled to attend these sessions.

These sessions provide opportunities for children to explore the school environment, meet Balmain teachers and peers, and become familiar with daily routines. By participating in transition sessions, children build confidence, develop social skills, and feel more comfortable and excited about beginning their education journey.

Please sign your child in when you arrive and ensure you are back in the playground to collect your child promptly.

First day of Kindergarten

WEDNESDAY 3 February 2027

Start time: 9:30am (only for this DAY only)

End time: 2:30 (only for this DAY only)

Students who are enrolled in Before or After Care will be under their supervision for extended hours for the day (e.g. 8:30 - 9:30 and 2:30 - 3:00).

We do understand that some children will not be enrolled in Before/After Care and parents may not be able to drop off or collect at these adjusted times. If that is the case, students will be supervised by Kindergarten teachers from 9:00-9:30am and 2:30-3:00pm as per usual school hours.

Kindergarten students commence: Wednesday 3rd February 2026

Term 1 – Thursday 28th January (4 student-free days) to Friday 9 April
- Autumn school holidays – Monday 12 April to Friday 23 April
Term 2 – Tuesday 27 April (2 student-free days) to Friday 2 July
- Winter school holidays – Monday 5 July to Friday 16 July
Term 3 – Monday 19 July (1 student-free day) to Friday 24 September
- Spring school holidays – Monday 27 September to Friday 8 October
Term 4 – Monday 11 October (1 student-free day) to Monday 20 December
- Summer school holidays – Tuesday 21 December to Friday 28 January 2028

Parents and carers should not bring their child to school on school development days:

Term 1: Thursday January 28 to Tuesday February 2
Term 2: Tuesday 27 April and Wednesday 28 April
Term 3: Monday 19 July
Term 4: Monday 11 October
