The Balmain Public School Parents and Citizens’ Association, or P&C, is an active part of the school community that works together to support and promote the interests of the school.
It is a not-for-profit organisation composed of mainly parent volunteers, who regularly raise funds to assist in providing resources that enhance the well being of our students.
The events organised by the P&C also aim to develop a stronger sense of connection for local families with the school community.
At the beginning of the year we host a parents' drinks at one of our local beloved pubs, this is an especially great way for new families to meet each other and make those important connections.
Examples of past events that have been organised by the P&C include: the Colour Run, Art Show, Family Fun Day, Halloween Disco, Silent Disco, Movie Night, as well as countless BBQs and cake stalls.
In the past year, the P&C have;:
Established a performing arts program, including creating junior and senior choirs, and a joint ensemble band with Nicholson Street Public School.
Been lobbying and raising funds for installation of air conditioning in all classrooms.
Installed new and replaced broken blinds to improve thermal efficiency.
Supported excursions to visit Good in the Hood, a locally based volunteer organisation supporting our community.
Purchased new iPads, computers, whiteboards and other IT resources
Provided classroom resources, sport resources and countless new library books
How can you get involved?
The P&C is a diverse group of committed individuals with different talents. We are constantly looking for new members and all parents at the school are welcome to join.
There are different ways to get involved ranging from ad-hoc volunteering at events to becoming a member of the P&C Executive Committee.
P&C Executive Committee: Around February/March every year, there will be an Annual General Meeting at which the Executive Committee positions will be voted upon for the year. This is a hugely rewarding role and will help you to integrate quickly with the school community.
P&C member: If you can't commit on a regular basis, sign up to become a P&C member and have the opportunity to attend and vote for resolutions at the monthly P&C meetings.
P&C sub-committee member: Those with special interests in our various sub-committees are encouraged to volunteer their expertise in the areas of Cooling the School initiative, Performing Arts, Uniform Stall etc.
Volunteers for ad-hoc events: It takes a village to raise a child and the same goes for the school community. Throughout the year there will be numerous call-outs for volunteers. This ranges from being a BBQ chef, Working Bee gardener extraordinaire, Cake baker, Colour run squirter, Builder, Photographer, First Aid volunteer and many more.
