What is Best Start?
Best Start Kindergarten Assessment is a literacy and numeracy assessment conducted for all Kindergarten students in the first five weeks of school.
It identifies a student's literacy and numeracy skills on entry to Kindergarten and has been conducted in all NSW public schools since 2010.
There is no preparation you need to do with your child prior to the assessment. The purpose of Best Start is to provide an opportunity for your child to show us any prior skills and knowledge they're coming to school in literacy and numeracy so that our teachers can target their teaching accordingly.
Further information can be found here in the NSW Department of Education's Parent Fact Sheet.
