You will receive an email with login details to the online selection portal. You will have at least 48 hours to enter your preferences from the time you get your login details.
You will be eventually enrolled in three electives, but we will ask you to choose seven electives in order of preference.
No. Processing of choices will not begin until the Edval Webchoice portal has closed. You can change your preferences up until the time they close.
No. You should only place a subject at the top of your preferences if it really is your first preference. The timetabling algorithm is designed to maximise your highest preferences. There will be certain subjects that will most likely always run at Caringbah High School, but that doesn’t mean that subject should be placed further down in your preferences because you think it’s a ‘safe’ subject when you otherwise would have placed it higher in your preferences. If you don’t choose a subject that you really want or need ‘high enough’ in your preferences, it may end up running at the same time as another of your preferences that you ranked higher.
e.g. If your 1st Preference and your 3rd Preference are placed on the timetable at the same time you will be allocated your 1st Preference. If any of your first 3 preferences do not run, or they are full, you will be allocated one of your reserves if they fit the lines.
Course popularity certainly plays a part in determining which subjects are offered, but there is not necessarily a 'magic' number. It all depends on course preference and the combination of not only your other preferences, but the other preferences of students who have also selected the course. Please note that every effort will be made to ensure the students’ requests on subject choices are met. It must be understood, however, that classes cannot be established if demand is insufficient.
You will be asked to identify a preferred pattern of study for Year 11 that will be discussed at your subject selection mentor interview. You will also be asked to enter reserve subjects and if any of your first 12 units of preferences do not run or they clash with another preference, you will be allocated one of your reserves if they fit the lines. Students in this situation will be interviewed and given an opportunity to review their choices based on the set lines. Every effort will be made to ensure the students’ requests on subject choices are met.
