Caringbah offers both NESA developed/endorsed and school-developed courses in Stage 5. To qualify for the Record of School Achievement (RoSA), students need to complete 400 hours of NESA NESA developed/endorsed courses. Therefore, students are advised to complete a maximum of 200 hours of school developed (Non-RoSA) courses.
In some instances, yes. Generally, students are only able to enrol in external study for subjects that are not offered at Caringbah High School. It is important to be aware that studying an external subject requires a high degree of motivation, self-direction and organisation. If you are considering Distance Education, you should seek further information and advice from Mrs Marjoribanks.
You are required to complete mandatory subjects in Years 7 - 10 to progress to Year 11, but with the exception of Continuers Language courses, there are no Year 9/10 electives that are prerequisites for Year 11 courses.
Assessment information is available in the Sample Assessments section of the website. Whilst not guaranteed to be the same next year, the assessment booklets will give you an idea of the types of assessment tasks in each elective subject.
Teachers are not allocated to classes until the construction of the timetable begins (after you enter your preferences). Therefore, you shouldn't choose subjects based on teachers. Even if you get the teacher of your choice, remember that whilst they are always committed, teachers get promoted, seek permanent employment, expand their families, take leave, get sick, move elsewhere - they may even win the lottery! So you should base your decision on your interest in the subject more than the teacher.
There are lots of pieces in the timetable jigsaw, but we will be in touch in the first half of Term 4.
