Tell the story of your project using any tools your team wishes to utilize. But, remember, without the benefit of Level 2 judges being able to ask questions of your presentation team, it's your task to make sure you tell the judges everything you want them to know via your presentation.
Due to the scale of Level 2 Project judging, and the abbreviated preparation time, Level 2 presentations are about telling the story of your project. However, if you project advances to Level 3, judges will connect with your team for a live video conference to ask questions and learn about your project.
For our face-to-face STLP State Championship, most teams would have elected to create a presentation board and set up a demonstration to fit within a specific physical space. For STLP@Home, project teams are free and encouraged to utilize any digital tools they see fit to use to tell the story of their project. While many will take advantage of video conferencing platforms to record presenters sharing their part of the story, teams are welcome to also utilize websites, online presentation tools, digital visualizations, shared slide decks and/or other platforms, as well.
Be creative. Try to make your project presentation stand out from the crowd (while remaining safe at home)!
To keep the phsical space around project tables manageable, presentation teams were originally limited to no more than 4 presenters (while the team working on a project was not limited in size). For STLP@Home, we aren't limited by the space restrictions... so presentation teams can now be more than 4 students.
The freshly updated Level 2 Scoring Guide was established using main topic categories from the previous version; however, this updated version is abbreviated to allow judges to focus on 10 main areas. While the topics will remain familiar, the new scoring guide is designed to give special considerations to the circumstances that have led to STLP@Home being necessary.
To let teams focus on creating their new presentations (using the guidance of the updated Level 2 Scoring Guide), we have removed the Team Reflection document requirement. Use that time/energy to create an outstanding presentation, instead.
Also removed is the need to declare a category for your project. All projects are eligible to be selected as Best Technical Project.
If your project participated at Regional in the fall and was invited to STLP State, you are invited to register to participate in STLP@Home State Championship, as well. Even if your team did not submit a registration for State before the original March deadline (because maybe you were going to be out of town or STLP State fell during your district's spring break), you are still welcome to register now.
Slightly different than other STLP registrations, the Level 2 registration is one project per form. Submit multiple registrations as needed.
In an effort to streamline communications and processes, we are asking the STLP Coach who submits the registration to act as the volunteer judge for your school. Judging will take place during a window between Sunday, May 3rd and Tuesday, May 5th.
Judges will be instructed to recognize and consider our current learning environment challenges as they assign scores. We all realize that these presentations are being pieced together in less than ideal circumstances..and under a compressed timeframe, too!. The challenges are vast and we appreciate the extra mile that STLP Coaches will be going to coordinate and help produce these presentations. Home access, access to devices, collaborative planning time, etc. are all obstacles that we are not taking for granted.
Therefore, judges will be focusing on the completeness of addressing Level 2 Scoring Guide categories more than the production value of the presentations. Our hope is that focusing on the content of the presentation will help to level the playing field.
Of course, "Presentation" is still a scoring category, but it's point value has been reduced to reflect our acknowledement of the challenges teams are facing (especially at the K-5 and 6-8 grade divisions).
While all presentation methods are welcome, each presentation should be crafted to require less than 10 minutes of a judges' time to review. Ideally, each presentation will tell the story (following the guidance of the updated Level 2 Scoring Guide) while being comprehenive and complete in as succinct a package as possible.
Suggestions include:
If your team is using a screen recording of their presentation completed via digital meeting software, shoot for 5-7 minutes maximum
If your team is using a collection of digital resources (websites, slide decks, docs, visuals, etc.) strive to provide a clear picture of your project that takes no more than 10 minutes for a judge to explore
If your team is using a combination of video and digital resources, make sure navigation of your presentation is as easy as possible
Consider linking to a table of contents/landing page where additional links to all presentation resources are housed. This will provide teams the flexibility of including linlks to documents citing attributes/permissions, adding last minute updates or presentation enhancements, and to act as a one-stop-shop for judges to find everything they need. Just be certain to organize such a landing page to help the judges not miss any of the details you want them to review.
New addition to the Level 2 Project registration: description of project. This is intended to be a very brief over view of what the project is all about. It's ok if the STLP Coach determines the description. Registration for Level 2 Projects is open until 11:59 pm on the evening of Thursday, April 30th. Check out the registration here.
When you submit your registration, a link (URL) to the completed presentation must be included at that time. Organization of judging teams and links will begin immediately after the close of the registration window. Registration for Level 2 Projects is open until 11:59 pm on the evening of Thursday, April 30th. Check out the registration here.
As mentioned, a link to completed presentations must be included at the time of your registration. Possibly the most important step of the entire Level 2 judging process is verifying that the URL to the presentation you submit is:
Accurate: no typos and it goes directly to the project presentation
Correct Permissions: make certain that all URLs are checked for proper share permissions (for example, if using Google Drive to host your presentation, make certain the presentation files are Shared as "Anyone with a link can view" and not limited to your within in your district).
Accessible: project presentations should not require any sort of password to access orspecial non-standard software to view
Confirmation: The STLP Coach that submits the registration is responsible to confirm that URLs meet all of these guidelines. The judging timeframe is too tight to ask judges to reach out to STLP Coaches for corrected links. Please, check your URLs thoroughly.
If a URL is inaccessible or incorrect, the Level 2 Project will not be judged. Double, triple, and quadruple check your URLs before submitting!
QUICK NOTE: Typically, student drives are not accessible to people outside your district organization. Files housed in student drives may need to be copied to an appropriate teacher drive. Even then, some districts limit outside access to internal files. Determine these hurdles now so teams can make alternate plans ahead of the registration deadline if necessary.

The Level 2 Scoring Guide has been updated and streamlined for STLP@Home. Be sure to address all the scoring categories in your presentation!
Any team that qualified for Level 2 Judging at Regional is welcome to participate...even if you didn't register for #STLP20.
