We created and operated “L.E.M.O.N.S. Days” at our school where we gave a cup of lemonade to people who donated socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, bars of soap, deodorant, bottles of water, or packs of snack crackers to us to help us make Compassion Care Kits for homeless veterans and their families.

No Child Left Behind
Ashland Middle School | Ashland Independent
STLP Coach: Mark Harmon
Team's Project Description:
When emergencies that require evacuation happen in multi-level schools, students with mobility impairments are asked to shelter in place. These students remain in the building waiting to be rescued until first responders arrive. In our trials, it took an additional 14 minutes for these students to exit the building when compared to their peers. Using our device, the evacuation time for mobility impaired students was significantly reduced and could be done by teachers. Additionally, an app was created to track students that needed assistance so they can be quickly located during an emergency.

The Westwood Hook
Fairview High School | Fairview Independent
STLP Coach: Corey Moore
Team's Project Description:
The Westwood Hook started as an idea to create a tool that would allow for faster response from firefighters. The tool takes inspiration from several popular firefighting tools. By combining those tools into one, firefighters can be more efficient in the heat of the moment. After a few months of research and development, a concept was born which led to a full-scale 3D model being printed. Using software like Tinkercad and Cura, the product was made with a 3D Printer and presented at STLP Regionals in Morehead. Finally, after receiving feedback from firefighters on the 3D printed version, a few design changes were made. Several steel tools were welded together to make the model you see today. This tool has been used on a real fire call recently. Helmet footage from this fire is presented in the video. The tool performed well and other local departments are interested in acquiring them for their firefighters.
