Project Teams started with Level i (Districts) and teams reaching this level were advanced by Judges from Level 1 (Regionals) to Level 2 (State Semi-Finals). Level 2 Project present LIVE at the STLP State Championship.
Level 2 is your chance to create a presentation experience for Judges that will wow them and convince them your project deserves to be selected over others to advacne to the STLP Project State Finals: Level 3.
Level 2 presentations are best when they are:
Inviting to anyone to engage and explore your presentation space
Packed with technology for demos and telling your project's story
A reflection of your passion for your project
The starting line for every Project moving on to Level 2 is to register your team before the deadline. Your registration helps us plan State by:
Confirming that your Project Team is coming to Rupp
Solidifying the final version of your Project Title
Providing estimates on how many are attending
Allowing us to contact your Volunteer Judge early
NOTE: Registration forms, details, maps, & schedules for Level 2 are located on the STLP State Info page.

The Level 2 scoring guide (rubric) is more than just a judging tool—it’s your roadmap to success. Use it early and often while planning your project presentation.
1. Break it down together
Read the rubric as a team. Make sure every presenter understands the categories and what judges will be looking for.
2. Align your planning
As you prepare, ask: Does our project clearly show what the rubric is asking for? Use the rubric to guide what to emphasize in your display, presentation, and supporting materials.
3. Self-check before State
Do practice runs using the rubric. Have teammates or mentors “score” your presentation. This helps you see your strengths and spot areas that need improvement.
4. Balance your efforts
Don’t focus on one category and ignore others. Judges will score across all areas, so aim for steady strength in every part of the rubric.
5. Treat it like a checklist
Before heading to State, go line by line through the rubric to confirm you’re ready to show judges evidence for each part.
The Kentucky Academic Standards (KAS) for Technology outline what students should know and be able to do with technology. The 7 guiding questions in the Scoring Guides are built directly from these standards. Using both helps make your Level 2 project presentation stronger, more meaningful, and more connected to real-world learning.
When you shape your presentation around the KAS Technology standards and guiding questions, you:
Stay focused – Your team highlights the skills and problem-solving judges are looking for.
Spotlight technology – You project demo's how KY students are expected to grow with technology.
Strengthen your story – Guiding questions help tell a clear, complete story from idea to impact.
Level 1 feedback is a gift—it’s advice from judges who saw your project in progress and pointed out strengths and areas for growth. Teams that take time to study and act on this feedback are usually the ones that level up at State.
1. Review Together
Sit down as a team and re-read through all the comments and scores. Make sure everyone understands what the judges were saying back during Level 1.
2. Identify Themes
Look for patterns: Did judges ask for more detail about your process? More clarity about the problem you’re solving? Stronger evidence of tech use? Highlight the comments that show up more than once.
3. Turn Comments Into Goals
Translate each piece of feedback into an action step.
Example: “Be clearer about your project’s purpose” → Write a sharper opening statement.
Example: “Show more evidence of teamwork” → Add photos or stories that prove how everyone contributed.
4. Rehearse With Feedback in Mind
Practice your Level 2 presentation while focusing on the areas judges flagged. Have your coach or peers pretend to be judges and ask questions in those same areas.
5. Show Growth
Make sure your Level 2 presentation highlights how you used Level 1 feedback. Judges love to see that your project—and your team—learned and improved along the way.
6. Keep the Strengths Too
Don’t forget the positive comments. If judges praised your teamwork, creativity, or problem choice, keep leaning into those strengths at State.
Each team gets a bare wooden table (either 6' or 8' long) with access to a nearby outlet. Bring extension cords/power strips). Wifi is available throughout Central Bank Center.
Use your space creatively to engage others—but stay within your area and keep walkways clear.
Keep the T in STLP at the forefront for your presentation space. Utilize technology to tell your story, to give demonstrations, and to excite the audience.
Tech should be engrained in your project, but also a big part of your Level 2 presentation space.
Level 2 presentations are all about telling the story of your project to as many people as possible. At State, don't just wait for Judges to show up at their scheduled time, reach out and invite people walking by to learn more about your project. Look for ways to get their attention...and keep it!
At Level 2, judging is competitive—projects go head-to-head in randomly assigned Judging Groups (by grade division). Judges can only advance one project from their Judging Group to L3. To be considered for Level 3, projects must:
Hit a minimum score of 91 points on the Level 2 rubric to be considered for Level 3 advancement.
Judges determine which of the projects in their Judging Group that scored at least 91 will be named "Best in Level 2 Group" and advance to Level 3
Every project advancing to Level 3 has the opportunity to be named one of the four Best Projects in Kentucky.
All Level 3 Projects will be recognized in Rupp Arena during the live broadcast of the STLP Awards. Each Level 3 team will receive at least one of these honors (with a trophy):
Best in Level 2 Group
Terrific Top 20
Runner-Up (by grade division or Technical)
Best Projects in State + Dave Sigler Award for Best Tecnical Project
Project Team must be present to accept Best Project in State award. If the team is not present at time of the announcement, the Runner Up project in that division will take their place.
