The Student Technology Leadership Program (STLP) has been part of Kentucky's public schools since 1994. For more than three decades, STLP has helped students use technology to solve problems, tell stories, lead in their schools and communities, and demonstrate learning in authentic ways.

STLP is hosted by the Kentucky Department of Education’s Office of Education Technology and depends on the support of educators, volunteers, community partners, higher education partners, nonprofit organizations, and technology-focused companies from across Kentucky and beyond.

Each year, the STLP State Championship brings together more than 20,000 students, educators, families, volunteers, and partners for one of Kentucky’s largest celebrations of student learning. The event is not a trade show. It is not a vendor fair. It is a student-centered learning experience where Kentucky students demonstrate creativity, communication, collaboration, problem-solving, leadership, and technology skills.

While the State Championship is the culminating event, STLP is a year-round program. Throughout the school year, students engage in projects, challenges, leadership opportunities, competitions, community service, and technology-focused learning experiences at the school, district, regional, and state levels. These opportunities allow students to develop skills, explore interests, and showcase their learning over time, with many of those experiences ultimately leading to participation in the State Championship.

Organizations interested in supporting STLP are invited to do so in ways that are meaningful, hands-on, standards-aligned, and directly connected to student learning.
