Need of H-S Skills
Busy, tiring, stressful and strategies can describe the life of students. Though it is the phase of our lives where we don’t have to worry about any bills, except the only thing we need to focus is on our studies. While studying too, we face a lot of challenges when we are solving problems, doing presentations, talking to our elders and a lot more. Most of us think that hard skills are way more important than soft skills, however it’s not true.
Hard skills in a student’s life could mean the subject related knowledge they gain through textbooks, novels, internet; and their abilities of answering questions, their handwriting, and the way they present themselves. These are all important for their studies and in order to study well. From these qualities, we can determine the person’s abilities and how he could perform in his life with the qualifications. It can also earn him recognition as well as a bunch if certificates.
However, the soft skills determine their character which are very important for them to thrive or to stay happily with their friends, teachers and in their surrounding. Soft skills are very much needed in a student’s life because through communication, they can build better relation with everyone around them; leadership qualities help them to make the right decisions, be independent, guide others and time management can improve the way they do things with punctuality. These skills help them to get out of their comfort zone creating a lot of opportunities for themselves.
In the dilemma between soft skills and hard skills, we can say that both are very important for a person in general. A person or a student, in order to be successful in life, need both the skills which includes communication skills, leadership, time management, knowledge, etc. Not only for success but also for an easy life with friendly colleagues, independence and trust of everyone.
Therefore,it is not true as both the skills are important. One may get a job with hard skills but they won’t be efficient enough if they lack the soft skills. It’s like one can’t survive without the another so as a student, giving importance to each one of them is a choice with benefits.
Situated in the eastern side of Bhutan, one of the most isolated district Lhuentse holds eight gewogs. Under the gewog known as Gangzur, there lies a village called Ney (Neypemacholing) which hosts several sacred sites of pilgrimage. It is located around 2 km from the dzong. Ney is mainly known for its unique traditions, people and its food.
Firstly, the village is home to more than a hundred households with people living in each household ranging from three to fifteen members. The people of Ney mostly speak Kurtoep as their local dialect and their daily chores include weaving different types of fabric and doing agricultural works. They follow their age-old schedule for farming and used to weave ghos and kiras by using the local plants during their ancestor's time. Most of the children are sent to border schools for studies since the village has only one school from grade PP till 3.
With that, Ney celebrates a variety of different festivals and rituals like Prew, Chha, Tshechu, Ngyenpa Gusum, Chotpa and many more. Though all these festivals are important, the main and most important ones include Prew which is celebrated by making red eggs and offering flowers in the alter, and Chha whereby the people dress in new clothes and sing a song in a very unique local language. One important ritual they follow is whereby the people offer three to five handmade dough statues in their fields in order to worship the local deities and pray for a fruitful harvest. These festivals and rituals are celebrated with full dedication and faith in their hearts.
Furthermore, the food eaten by the people of Ney are not very distinct from others. They too survive on the usual Bhutanese meals like red rice, meat, curries, alcohol, etc, however they also consume steamed flour (chochan), putang and drink alcohol (ara) made from rice and maize either fermented or distilled. The people believe in being self-sufficient and helping others so they grow all the six types of grains, variety of fruits and vegetables. Thanks to the climate of Ney that the crops are able to grow very well.
In conclusion, like each and every person, thing or place is unique, the village of Ney has also proven to be unique and distinct from other villages due to its traditions, unique practices, food and people. Ney is also an attraction for the people due to its sacred sites and beautiful features. Their age old practices are seen very useful and are preserved due to this reason.
