When I interviewed Antonio Gragera Lozano he told me that he was born on October 15, 1968 in Merida (Badajoz).
Antonio is the son and grandson of farmers. He assured me that he lived a happy childhood playing in the streets, doing mischief with many friends and helping his father in the field.
Antonio said that he attended his first studies at the CEIP Santísima Trinidad in Trujillanos, which is his town. And he finished his bachelor’s degree in Mérida, at the Extremadura Institute.
When I asked him about his marriage, he told me that he got married to Julia Isabel Macías on June 10, 2000. Since then, he has lived in Mirandilla (Badajoz) and he has 2 children Isabel and Fernando.
Antonio told me that he had a very good relationship with his father, however, in 1993, he died unexpectedly. So, Antonio, at only 26 years old, takes the reins of the family's exploitation.
He said that he doesn’t have working hours, he works from sunrise to sunset on his own land for commercial purposes and he complained that the price of the products of the field was too low and they couldn’t pay the wages of his workers.
Antonio said that he picks his olives mechanically and finishes picking them manually.
Antonio told me that he has a hobby, he is fascinated by the world of bees, beekeeping. He works for the maintenance and care of bees.
Antonio affirmed that this work offers its first utility in pollination. He told me that he obtained many benefits because he obtained honey, pollen, propolis and wax, which he then offered totally natural to the consumer.
He said that his biggest challenge is to maintain the hives throughout the year and try not to kill too many bees.
When I asked him about quitting his jobs, he told me that he would never do that and he also said that he will fight with all his might not to have to uproot his plantations.
