There are three admissions testing sessions for consideration for admission in the 2026-2027 school year. Applicants can only attend one and may not attempt a re-take.
Wednesday, February 4. 13.00-14.45 in the North Building Auditorium.
or
Monday, March 16. 14.30-15.45 in the North Building Auditorium.
or
Friday, June 5. 10.00-11.45 in the North Building Auditorium.
Who should test? Everyone who applies and wants to be considered for a place and who hasn't already tested.
Placement testing serves two purposes for us. First, it can help us to verify what we see in the student grade reports we receive, which is a mandatory part of the application as well as an important factor in identifying who has the pre-requisite knowledge to join the program. Second, it informs us about the student's engagement and reasoning skills, while also communicating a proposed solution. Therefore, our test is designed for us to be able to evaluate reasoning and basic communication skills.
The testing for 2026-2027 school year will be different than in past years. Here is what you can expect in the new iteration.
Part 1: Approximately 15 minutes.
Students will be presented with a short set of problems that will take approximately 15 minutes. This is to be considered a warm up.
Examples of what types of problems students might come across in this section:
Use of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division using integrers, decimals, fractions, including order of operations
Calculation of percent, ratio, or proportion
Working with Factors and multiples
Rearranging formulae
Part 2: Approximately 1 hour
A real-life problem will be described and the student’s task is to propose a solution to the problem using mathematical reasoning. The student will be free to use whatever mathematical models and calculations they wish, to come to a proposed solution that addresses the original problem. All calculations and work must be shown.
The task is finished by presenting the solution in written communication: a simple proposal of how they would go about solving the problem that was presented.
Testing from abroad?
Those of you applying from abroad probably cannot attend entrance testing in person. The principal will only coordinate entrance testing through a teacher from your current school. If you cannot come to Gothenburg for placement testing, read more below.
It is the responsibility of the student candidate to know and understand what is and is not permitted before, during, and after placement testing. We expect all student candidates, their legal guardians, and the placement test invigilators to adhere to Academic Integrity guidelines.
1. Students may not preview the test or keep any portion of the test afterwards.
2. Students may not have access to their phone during testing.
3. Students may not use any help aids for the test: no dictionary, no calculator, and no outside help from a computer, person or entity.
4. Students may not take longer than the allotted time. In cases where additional time is a usual inclusive access arrangement for the student, please contact the Principal well ahead of time.
5. Students may not discuss the contents of the test with any other person after the test.
If academic dishonesty is suspected or identified at any time during placement testing or afterwards, the student will not be permitted to enter or stay in the program.
Arrangements for testing, only for applicants outside of Sweden
All applicants are required to sit a placement test.
To arrange the test from abroad, the student's legal guardian should write an email to the Principal to explain the situation. To ensure academic integrity, the test will need to be coordinated between a staff member from the student's current school as well as a supervisor from Hvitfeldtska who will join the testing session remotely via video.
When the legal guardian writes to the Principal, please ensure the following information is conveyed in the email:
1. An introduction of the legal guardian name and the name of the student applicant.
2. The grade level student is applying to (Grade 10 or Grade 11 applicant)
3. The name and website link to the student's current school
4. A suggestion for the best days of week or times of day, and in which time zone, the testing can take place.
Also, please remember:
The student applicant and their family must act with academic integrity. We reserve the right to close your application and the ensuing process at any point if we detect there may be a breach in academic integrity.
This could include any of the following (although the list is not exhaustive):
Not following instructions as per this website
Not accurately representing yourself or your identify
Not following the placement testing instructions
If we find out about a breach in academic integrity after you have arrived here, we reserve the right to de-register you as a student immediately.
We do not share test results since they are not the only factor used to decide student placement.
Please see Admissions Timeline for more information about the process and timeline.
