Sutton Trust Summer School - current S5 students
The University of Glasgow Is continuing in our partnership with the Sutton Trust to run the Sutton Trust Summer School from Monday 29 June – Friday 3 July 2026. The Sutton Trust is a Widening Access charity that aims to support university entry for young people who face additional challenges in their education.
The Sutton Trust Summer School (STSS) is a residential programme designed to give pupils a taste of university life. The young people will work online at home on Monday 29 June before travelling to campus on the Tuesday morning, where they will stay until the afternoon for Friday 3 July. All costs, including accommodation, travel, and food, are covered by the Sutton Trust and the University of Glasgow.
There are four streams, and pupils can apply for one, related to the subjects they are most interested in studying at university. These are Arts & Social Sciences, Medical & Life Sciences, Engineering, or Common Law. Please note that Common Law is only available for pupils based in Northern Ireland, England, or Wales. The eligibility information for the programme can be found on the Sutton Trust website: https://summerschools.suttontrust.com/eligibility/.
During the programme, pupils attend academic workshops within their chosen stream and receive talks about student life and the university application process. They will also participate in evening social activities and stay in university accommodation. Postgraduate tutors, current undergraduate students, and academic staff will be available to answer questions and provide guidance about what to expect at university.
Participants in the STSS will also be given access to our bespoke Academic Skills Module. Those who complete and pass this online module, and who also meet UofG’s Widening Participation criteria may also be eligible for and adjusted offer of entry. (Please note that this does not include Medicine, Dentistry, or Veterinary Medicine). Further information about the adjusted offer criteria can be found on the University of Glasgow’s website: https://www.gla.ac.uk/study/wp/adjustedoffers/.
Additional resources for emailing pupils, or materials such as PowerPoint and videos for further promotion of the programme to your pupils are available on the Sutton Trust website, if you would like them: https://summerschools.suttontrust.com/teacher-resources/.
Please be aware that the deadline for applications from students is Thursday 5th March 2026. Pupils should submit applications via the Sutton Trust website: https://ukss.suttontrust.com/. If you have any questions about the application process, please feel free to email applications@suttontrust.com or if you have questions about the provision at the University of Glasgow for the programme, these can be directed to wpsummerschool@glasgow.ac.uk. You can also visit our website at: https://www.gla.ac.uk/study/wp.
