Dunbar Grammar School is a six-year comprehensive, non-denominational and co-educational school. It serves the town of Dunbar and surrounding area and is one of seven secondary schools in East Lothian.
The present building was opened in 1961 and is situated in an attractive site in the centre of Dunbar. It has spacious playground areas and a games field within the school grounds. The school is fully equipped for disabled access. The school has been completely re-developed as part of East Lothian Council’s Private and Public Partnership Scheme, offering outstanding facilities for staff and students.
I am honoured and proud to be Headteacher of Dunbar Grammar and to serve the Dunbar and surrounding communities.
We are very keen to be open and transparent in everything we do and to welcome the active participation of all communities associated with the school. If interested in getting more actively involved with the school, please contact me or the School Council.
If you simply wish to follow our progress and influence the decision making process from the comfort of your home, please log on regularly to our web-site which is going from strength to strength.
All parents and carers who have given us an up-to-date e-mail address will receive a weekly news update with various links. If you do not receive an e-mail every Friday please ask your son or daughter to hand in an updated version of your e-mail address to the school office. If you do not wish to receive the weekly update then simply contact our school office.
Hard copies of letters and news items can also be collected from the school office. If you are not a parent but would like to be put on the e-mailing list please contact the school office in the first place.

RESULTS DAY COMMS
Dear Parents and Carers,
We hope you and your family have enjoyed a restful and enjoyable summer break. As we approach Results Day on Tuesday 5th August, we send our best wishes to all our young people and hope the day brings positive news.
For students returning to school who may wish to reconsider their course choices based on their results, our Guidance Team will be available in school on Thursday 7th August from 9:00am to 12:00pm. This session provides an opportunity to discuss and make any necessary changes ahead of the new timetable. If your child is unable to attend on this date, a second opportunity to recourse will be available on Thursday 14th August.
The Appeals service opens on Results Day, Tuesday 5 August at 9 am. Learners can use the service to appeal through their school or directly to SQA if they have concerns about a grade and they believe that an error may have occurred with either the totalling of marks or the marking.
Students can appeal if they are concerned about a National 5, Higher or Advanced Higher grade and feel there may have been a mistake in the marking. Please see the link to the SQA website https://www.sqa.org.uk/sqa/79049.html
The direct submission deadlines are:
Tuesday 12 August at 11.59 pm for priority* appeals
Tuesday 26 August at 11.59 pm for all other appeals
*An appeal can be prioritised if a student has a conditional place at university or college, or in training or employment that depends on their grade.
If a student appeals a grade, a senior marker will carry out a marking review of the SQA-marked assessments.
The senior marker will review the student’s responses to all externally marked questions and assignments. They check that the marks awarded by the marker are in line with the marking standards agreed at the markers briefing and the marking instructions.
In addition, they also check that:
all parts of the SQA-assessments have been marked;
the marks given for each answer have been totalled correctly
the correct result has been entered on our system.
Please note that after being reviewed, a result could stay the same, go up or go down.
If you have any questions or concerns related to SQA results, please do not hesitate to contact us at admin@dunbargrammar.elcschool.org.uk. Please note we can only provide information regarding students' grades to the student directly.
Additionally, our partners at Skills Development Scotland are available to support young people with their next steps. If your child is leaving school this summer and is reconsidering their plans, or would like help finding and applying for jobs or training opportunities, please contact their team at 0131 665 3120 for expert advice from qualified careers advisers across East Lothian.
Warm regards,
The Dunbar Grammar School Team
