Welcome to the Blindwells Primary School Newsletter Page. We will use this page to provide updates on where we are in the process of preparing to open the school.
This is the first Head Teachers Newsletter. We have tried to pull together the FAQs from the first week to ensure all families have access to the same information.
It has been amazing to see how fantastically our children and young people have transitioned to their new school. This week we look forward to welcoming out Early Learning and Childcare children to their full time places on Tuesday 19th.
Today we spent time looking at images from a recent site visit and talking about what we would like in our playground
A site visit on Friday 23rd allowed Gemma-Rose to see progress. The playground looks amazing, much of the soil you see will be grass. Thankfully the rain has come which will support this space.
Today we welcomed over 25 families to Cockenzie to consult on a variety of topics. What came through clearly is the desire to be a strong community, to work together and to offer a wide variety of experinces to all children and yougn people.
Today we spent time together looking at what we created in workshop #3 around our vision. We did this with our upper school pupils. It was amazing to hear their discussions about what is important for them, what they want for their school and their community. They have come up with a variety of vision statements. We will share these at the workshop on Monday 19th with our families. The Vision, Values and aims for Blindwells will evolve and be evaluated throughout the next year.
Today we spent time together looking at some of the values we developed last week. We drew what they mean to us and discussed why they are important. Blindwells' values will be used as school rules, to support restorative discussions and to foster a positive learning environment. Families will be consulted on the final 3 values at the workshop on the 19th May.
A social story is ready for families to download and use to support children and young people with the upcoming change to a new school. Find it here
On Tuesday we spent some time thinking about what matters to us. We talked about what makes us and our new and developing community unique, what we love about school, what we would change if we could and why school, learning and relationships are important. We also played some games in the sunshine to support us to identify values we hold. We will continue this work to support the development of our vision and values.
Gemma-Rose (HT) met with the Community Development Officer for Blindwells. We talked about lots of exciting future plans, including looking at how the school can support the Stay and Play group as well as how to welcome volunteers to support various aspects of school life and experiences.
On Wednesday we met together and worked on our new school logo. We considered what makes the site unique to us and what we want from our school and community. We will keep working to finalise our logo and look forward to sharing ideas with families.
The fantastic team in East Lothian has been supporting me to set up our initial platforms so that we can share what is happening and keep you up to dates with experiences and activities. This is our 'under construction' website and our email address is: admin@blindwellsps.elcschool.org.uk
On Wednesday we held our first pupil workshop. It was so lovely to bring all the Blindwells Children & Young People who are currently being hosted in Cockenzie Primary together to share our ideas for our future school uniform. We also looked at a site plan of our grounds at Blindwells to discuss what we would call these areas. Lots of brilliant suggestions and excitement. Final decisions on uniform will be made at the first Blindwells Blether Workshop with Families in May.
All families should have received an email from Mrs Lansdown this week to say hello and share dates for drop ins and workshops. If you have registered for the Early Learning Centre (nursery) or the School to start in August and you have not received this, please contact Blindwells via admin@cockenzie.elcschool.org.uk
