Fundraising

Parent Fundraising Associations or Societies

In addition to school councils, Fundraising Associations play a role in contributing to the success of a school community. School-based Fundraising Associations or Societies are distinct groups in the school, working closely with their school council.

Guiding approach for Parent Fundraising

Fundraising Societies may, under direction of School Council or the School Principal, carry out fundraising activities to benefit the educational experiences of students within Sturgeon Public Schools.

School Council, with the Principal, direct the goals or projects related to fundraising.

Fundraising Societies determine what and how fundraising should be carried out.

Insurance

Any fundraising associations or societies engaged in activities that would require a gaming licence unter the Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Act should carry their own insurance. These groups are encouraged to reach out to the Associate Superintendent of Corporate Services to discuss insurance options. Another support would be to connect with Alberta School Council Association. They have an insurance program available for School Fundraising groups.

Starting Up

If you are considering starting up a Parent Fundraising Association, one of the best resources is ASCA. This is the starting page, but to access to most of the templates and resources, someone needs to be a member specifically to this section. The ASCA membership for School Council chairs does not gain access.

The Edmonton Public Guide for Councils, also includes a sample application to become a Fundraising Association.
