goal: help others in need
Here's one of the books I read to the children.
For service I'm volunteering at a library. I'll have multiple options on what to do there so this will be an ongoing experience. My supervisor told me that I could read to others, organize the books, have an event etc. I have volunteered at library before so I kinda know what I'm doing and I already know I will enjoy it. Today I got to read books for the children and I liked it. It also offers me a bit of a challenge since I don't think I'm good at reading out loud. It felt natural in the end and I will definitely do it again.
Here are some things I will be doing in the upcoming months:
Shelving Books: Organize and shelve returned books according to the library's classification system, ensuring that materials are easily accessible to patrons.
Assisting Patrons: Provide assistance to library visitors by answering questions, locating books, assisting with library equipment (such as computers and printers), and offering guidance on library resources and services.
Library Programs: Assist with planning, promoting, and facilitating library programs and events, such as storytime sessions for children, book clubs, workshops, or guest speaker presentations.
Collection Management: Help with cataloging new materials, processing incoming donations, and weeding out outdated or damaged items from the library collection.
Technology Support: Assist patrons with using library computers, printers, scanners, and other technology resources. Provide basic troubleshooting assistance and guidance on accessing online resources.
Administrative Tasks: Assist with administrative duties such as data entry, filing, preparing promotional materials, or helping with mailings.
Outreach and Promotion: Help promote library services and events through outreach efforts, such as distributing flyers, attending community events on behalf of the library, or engaging with local schools and organizations.
Special Projects: Take part in special projects as assigned by library staff, such as creating displays, conducting research, or assisting with archival work.
Language Support: If proficient in a language other than English, provide language support to non-native speakers visiting the library, including assistance with translation or language learning resources.
Creative Activities: Lead or assist with creative activities and workshops, such as arts and crafts sessions, writing workshops, or DIY projects, to engage library patrons in hands-on learning experiences.
Learning outcomes: Global engagement and ethics of Choices and Action
Reaching goals while volunteering at a library involves global engagement and upholding ethical principles in choices and actions. Global engagement means recognizing the library's role as a community resource and actively contributing to its mission of promoting literacy and education. Upholding ethics involves making responsible decisions, respecting diversity, and ensuring equitable access to resources. By prioritizing global engagement and ethical conduct, volunteers can positively impact their communities and help fulfill the library's mission.
