Tied Together
Protocol:
The VR and the CR actors’ arms are tied together as they play a game.
Hypothesis/assumption:
This will result in a feeling of co-embodiment in the VR character.
Results:
This was confusing as to who is moving whom; resulted in a meatpuppet-y feeling. Hard to determine who is controlling what.
Other Arms
Hypothesis/assumption:
This will result in a feeling of co-embodiment in the VR character.
Protocol:
The VR actor wears the headset and acts as the eyes, with his hands behind his back. The CR actor stands behind the VR actor with the controllers, his arms slipped through the VR actor’s arms. Screen is visible to CR actor.
Results:
This worked much better. It also revealed some problems with aiming and how the controllers must (of course) be aligned with the headset. This was tricky for some people to figure out. Overall, it didn’t really reach the level of co-embodiment I expected, but it still felt much more like the people were operating as one unit.
