Travel Tips for Singapore

When visiting Singapore, I suggest:

  • Purchasing an EZ Link card right away for the MRT and buses.
  • On the buses in Singapore, you need to enter at the front of the bus and scan your EZ Link card. When exiting, you exit at the middle of the bus and "tap out" with your EZ Link card. If you do not "tap out" of both the MRT station and when exiting the bus, you will be charged for traveling the full distance even if you did not. Be sure to tap out!
  • Always have a water bottle and umbrella.
  • Walk in the shade as much as possible because the heat can be quite intense, yet the "air con" makes the transition from outside to inside somewhat extreme.
  • Walk to the left. If on the stairs or escalators, stay to the left so people may walk on the right.
  • Be brave. Explore. There's so much to see and do. I'd recommend that everyone see all the tourist places and then try to find lesser known Singapore spots. Ask the locals!
  • Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay are must sees, especially at night. The Esplanade area is where you can see the famous Merlion, although it's not the only one in Singapore! You can cross the Helix Bridge and visit both areas with ease.
  • The Night Safari is a must do in Singapore! It's the only one in the world.
  • Try the Hawker Centers but but sure to chope. Chope means to reserve a table with something not of value such as a pack of tissues, an umbrella, etc. If you see any of these items on a table, do not be rude and take the table as someone has reserved it for themselves.
  • Even though Singapore is very safe, be wise and vigilant.
