Apex Learning is the digital platform used by Virtual Edmond to provide quality, remote instruction.
Go to the Apex log in page here
Your username is the same as your chromebook password: your 3 initials and the last 4 digits of your student ID.
DO NOT use your chromebook PASSWORD (whatever you made up) for the APEX password.
When you log into APEX for the first time the password will be: virtual
Read the OVERVIEW (there is a read aloud button)
Make sure to write down your key terms and definitions
Go to STUDY (optional: print the study guide)
Write the information for the study guide on a piece of paper, or type it into a google doc
As you click through the section, make notes or fill out your study guide adding information that you will need when you take the quiz
Try to answer the questions in the study section using hints, multiple tries, notes, or any other information to help you
Use the flashcards in your STUDY section and see if you can explain what they mean or match the word to a definition
Answer the CHECK UP questions carefully. Use your notes on this! Do not move on until you complete all the questions.
Watch your REVIEW video and add any helpful information to your notes.
From your dashboard you are going to open a message,
You are going to type your answer to your practice assignment in the body of the email.
Label your assignment with the correct assignment number in the drop down menu in the message.
Make sure you check the SUBMIT HOMEWORK box under the body of the message.
Then send the message.
Make sure you answer all parts of the question. It is only one question, but it will have multiple parts you need to answer. It will usually be more than two sentences to a couple paragraphs expected as an answer.
6. QUIZ Time: USE YOUR NOTES on the quiz!
Take the quiz ONE TIME! If you don't make a 60 or higher, then GO BACK to the study and checkpoints in your lesson and see if you can figure out what you were confused on in the quiz.
You are able to go back and see the answers from your quiz. See why you got them wrong and see if you can explain why the correct answer is correct.
7. Email your content teacher with a snipped picture of any questions you had the most trouble with and ask for additional help or resources that might help you understand better.
Once you feel prepared, RESET the quiz to take it the 2nd time.
8. If you do not make a 60 or higher the second time,
You will email me your study guide and check with your content teachers one more time.
You can request a google meet with your content teacher or go back to the resources they have sent you.
I will turn your quiz back on once I see your notes and they seem to be filled out adequately.
To see assignment due dates, go to view calendar under the Apex dashboard. It will tell you what is due each day.
The dates are distributed to ensure student completion of the course within the 6 week time period.
You may work ahead, but your next courses will not start until the following 6 weeks.
Click here for directions: You can NOT type into the practice assignments on the main Apex screen.
You must turn in assignments following these directions:

You can also type answers in the message box of your Apex message after following the instructions above.
Turning in written assignments like this will show in your gradebook as turned in and waiting to be graded.
If you turn in an assignment in any other way than into APEX the assignment is missing until the student enters the assignment correctly into APEX.
If you turn it in, as directed, through APEX it will show that you submitted the assignment and it is not missing. It says In Progress
The teacher will still need to grade the assignment and enter a grade.
In your Google Document:
Click “File”
Click “Download”
Click “PDF Document”
Open a new Apex Message
Check the “submit homework” box
Pick the correct class and assignment needed to be submitted and attach the PDF file by double-clicking the appropriate file- do not click open.

Study guides are found under the Study button in the section ...
Click the orange pencil that says study guide underneath.
Click the down arrow to download the study guide in Word format. You may then save it to your Google Drive.
Students should take notes adding to the study guide as they go through the unit. Notes would include definitions and other important information that helps the student understand the concept.
You can email your completed study guide to your teacher from your Google Drive OR
Print study guide and take a picture to send to your teacher if needed.
These NOTES can be used on the quiz at the end of each section and on the final unit test.
Study guides are not for a grade.
You will want to have a completed study guide/unit NOTES if you want to retake a quiz.
When emailing this to your teacher please label it as NOTES or STUDY GUIDE and what lesson it is for and RETAKE.
Ex: STUDY GUIDE English 7 1.1.5 RETAKE
On your APEX main screen please check the Calendar button. This will tell you what assignments need to be completed per day to complete the course by the end of the 6 weeks.
If you do not complete an assignment by its due date, APEX automatically places a 0% for the assignment. This will drop grades quickly.
DON’T WORRY! You can still finish the assignment and submit it for credit! Once graded it will bring your grade back to the appropriate average. Please be patient with the grading process.
How do my grades impact my eligibility?
If you participate in an extracurricular activity such as athletics, you must keep your grade and progress to participate. Students must have their “On Schedule Percentage” & “Quality of Work” at 60% or higher in BOTH categories to participate. If not, students can be placed on probation or exempted from participating in extracurricular activities.
A report of all grades and participation will be run every Wednesday checking "On Schedule Percentage" & "Quality of Work". Students & Coaches will be notified of players not meeting these categories.
How do I type the accent marks for Spanish?
To type the accent marks on letters, you will need to have the International Keyboard on your Chromebook
This should be automatically installed if you are using the district provided device.
To switch from your regular keyboard to the international keyboard, press the Ctrl key + the Spacebar
Not working? Try this:
Click on the clock at the bottom right of your Chromebook screen
Click the gear button to access Settings
Go to "Keyboard" and select US International Keyboard
When you want to add an accent or tielde over a letter (for example: N --> ñ) hold down the Alt key to the right of your spacebar then select the letter/key that needs the accent
How do I turn in an assignment that requires an oral response?
To be able to record an oral response and turn it in through APEX click on the link and follow the directions:
Recording Oral Response Directions
Record on a phone, email to self, then attach in Apex
If you do not have a phone, please use www.vocaroo.com
Keep your recordings to under a minute or send in more than one if they go over a minute!
How do the quizzes work?
Each Unit has multiple section quizzes to test your understanding of each subtopic in the unit.
If you do not reach mastery (60%) the first time you take the quiz, then you will have one more opportunity to obtain a higher grade before the quiz locks.
It is suggested that if a student fails their quiz the 1st time, then they need to go back and review information, ask their coach questions, MAKE NOTES or complete the STUDY GUIDE.
Once they have reviewed, then they should take their time and retake the quiz the second time using their study guide.
The quizzes are shuffled and have different questions every time you take them. Please don’t expect to take the exact same quiz right after you took the first one.
How can I unlock my Unit Test?
Each unit will end with a unit test.
You must have completed all your practices and make 60% or higher on all your quizzes in the unit before the UNIT Test will be unlocked for you. (unless pushed through)
If you have done all the work in the unit, the TEST will be unlocked once you request an unlock from your teacher.
Once the UNIT TEST is unlocked it will STAY unlocked until you take the test!
Can I retake a Unit Test?
Tests have a maximum of 2 attempts, regardless if you pass or fail your first attempt.
Coaches, please help students study their working unit notes again and guide them to successful study patterns. Review titles, vocabulary, main ideas, and paragraph summaries to retain a higher level of content knowledge.
There are NO 3rd ATTEMPTS at a unit test.
Each teacher will have specific "office hours" where students can join to ask questions during the week.
Please refer to each subject/teacher to learn their specific office hours
Apex not working?
If the APEX program is left open and idle for too long, you may be logged out and progress may be lost. If you leave your Chromebook for any reason, save your progress then log off!
Having Chromebook Issues?
Try these troubleshooting tips!
Still not working?
If your Chromebook is broken or misbehaving, bring the device to your home site for help.
APEX Virtual teachers cannot help with broken chromebooks.
A single attendance check will be sent to the school's attendance secretary every Monday morning from the prior week's work and progress.
Attendance will be based on the “Progress Bar” inside the teacher’s view of APEX. If a student is on par with course guidelines (green bar) they will not be counted absent or missing for the week.
If you have worked ahead and are on track to meet the end of course goal, then you will not be counted absent for 3 or more consecutive days missed logging into APEX.
Contact will be made by the APEX Teacher or Administrator.
If you have a study guide you have printed and written on, and you need to send it to the teacher so a quiz/test can be reset, you need to take a picture of it and send it to the teacher's EMAIL address, NOT through APEX.
Your chromebook can take pictures!
