What? So What? Now What? Reflection Script:
My name is Bjorn Behrendt and this is my course reflection for Current Topics in Assessment & Technology, that I took the Spring of 2009
This class covered not only assessment that you would use in the classroom with students, but also the ability to assess technology tools. There was no text, however we did read several web-based articles. Through these readings we learned about formative and summative assessment, and building rubrics. Each week we also did an evaluation of a technology tool, that introduced me to some of the applications I use on a regular basis today.
With the class being split between a teaching role and an integration role, so is my sill at assessment. I personally have excelled in the ability to determining an applications value in the classroom, but using assessment as a personal teaching tool is a skill that needs improvement. While my use of assessment in the classes I teach could be better, I did walk away with a strong understanding of the structure of how it should be used, and have been able to help some teachers improve their lesson plans by placing the right type testing in the appropriate places, as well as identify places in my own lesson plans which need work.
Furthering my skills at providing well built assessments is a priority of mine. I hope to go through the lessons and content I have been creating and beef up how I gather student knowledge. Doing so will allow me to give better feedback and to truly improve a students understanding of the subject.
Thank you very much and have a good day.
